WAYNESBURG, PA – A season-high five Lady Redhawks scored in double-figures as La Roche women's basketball (9-1) downed Waynesburg University (3-7) 81-77. The victory increases their win-streak to eight games and improves their record to 4-1 against PAC opponents.
La Roche went on a 17-4 run to break a 43-43 tie at the 16:22 mark of the second half. LaShauna Brothers sparked the run with a pair of three-pointers and Amanda Garland added 5 points and 2 steals. Waynesburg cut the lead to 3 points with 19 seconds left to played, but Casie Cygan sunk a free throw to preserve the win.
Brothers led the Lady Redhawks with 19 points and went 5 for 6 from three-point land. Cygan, the AMCC's leading scorer, netted her tenth consecutive game in double-figures with 18 points. Jessica Pitts finished with 10 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds and Amanda Garland added 10 points. Leslie McPherson record 10 points and 6 assists in the win.
La Roche was outrebounded, but they capitalized in the open court by outscoring Waynesburg 32-13 off of turnovers and 16-2 on the fast break. The Lady Redhawks also assisted on 22 of 30 field goals and shot a season-high 50% (8 of 16) from behind the arc.
The Lady Redhawks will enjoy the holiday break before returning to the Fitness Center for a pair of AMCC Conference games on Saturday, January 5 (Pitt-Bradford) and Sunday, January 6 (Hilbert).
