PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche women's basketball (10-1, 4-0) survived a scare against Pitt-Bradford (4-6, 2-2) to beat the visiting Panthers 58-49 in AMCC Conference play on Saturday. The victory extends their win-streak to 9 games and keeps the Lady Redhawks atop the conference standings.
The Lady Redhawks closed the first half on a 21-8 run to overcome an early twelve point deficit. La Roche and Pitt-Bradford fought back and forth in the second half until Casie Cygan hit a big 3-pointer and Leslie McPherson and Shataya White combined for 6 free throws to close the game on a 9-0 run.
Cygan led the Lady Redhawks with 16 points on 6 of 13 shooting and Jessica Pitts added 11 points and 7 rebounds. Amanda Garland grabbed a season-high 12 boards to go along with 8 points, 5 steals, and 4 assists. White and McPherson netted 10 and 9 points respectively in the win.
The Lady Redhawks held Pitt-Bradford to just 32% from the field and 13% from behind the arc. La Roche also outscored the Panthers 16-4 off of turnovers and 14-6 on fast break points.
La Roche women's basketball returns to action tomorrow when they host Hilbert College at 1:00PM at the Kerr Fitness Center. The Hawks are in the midst of a two game losing streak and are coming off a 70-59 loss to Fredonia State.
