PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche women's basketball (11-1, 6-0) allowed a season-low 29 points and forced 35 turnovers on 23 steals in an 81-29 win over Hilbert College (3-10, 1-5) on Sunday. The win is their twenty-third straight at home against AMCC Conference competition.
The Lady Redhawks had twenty first-half takeaways to carry a 34-18 lead into halftime. Jessica Pitts finished the half with 6 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 assists, and Casie Cygan added 6 points. La Roche continued to force turnovers and used a 27-4 run early in the second half to widen the gap and cruise to the win.
Cygan scored a game-high 22 points and went 13 for 14 from the free throw line. Pitts fell just two steals shy of her second career triple double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 8 steals, and 6 assists. Leslie McPherson netted 10 points and went a perfect 4 for 4 from the field and LaShauna Brothers contributed 18 points and 6 assists.
The Lady Redhawks outrebounded Hilbert 38-26 and forced 35 turnovers on 23 steals. La Roche also outscored Hilbert 39-3 off turnovers, 22-0 on the fastbreak, and 34-18 in the paint.
La Roche women's basketball will travel to Steubenville, Ohio on Wednesday, January 9 at 6:00PM to take on Franciscan University. The Barons are coming off a 55-38 defeat to Pitt-Bradford.
