STEUBENVILLE, OH – The Lady Redhawks (12-1, 7-0) extended their win-streak to eleven including nine against AMCC Conference competition with their 79-39 win over Franciscan (3-11, 2-5) on Wednesday night.
Casie Cygan helped La Roche jump out to 41-16 lead at intermission with 17 first half points. Jessica Pitts controlled the glass with 7 rebounds and La Roche held Franciscan to 19% from the field after the first twenty minutes. Leslie McPherson extended the lead in the second half with 10 points and 4 steals and Amanda Garland made 6 of 7 free throws to seal the win.
Cygan, the AMCC's top scorer, netted a game-high 20 points on 7 of 11 from the field and Garland contributed 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals. Pitts registered her ninth double-double of the season (11 points, 12 rebounds) and added 6 assists to boost her average to a conference-best 5.7 apg. McPherson had 10 points and 5 steals and Brianna Gibbs had 7 steals and 7 boards.
The Lady Redhawks held Franciscan to a season-low 23% from the field and just 7% from behind the arc. La Roche also outscored the Barons off turnovers (30-15) and in the paint (28-20).
La Roche women's basketball will travel to Erie, PA on Saturday for an important conference game against Penn State Behrend (6-5, 5-2). The Lions come into the contest winners of four straight and fresh off a 53-26 win over Penn State Altoona.
