ERIE, PA – La Roche women's basketball (12-2, 7-1) dropped their first conference game of the season and had their 11-game win streak snapped with a 72-56 loss to Penn State Behrend (6-6, 6-2) on Saturday.
The Lady Redhawks shot 75% from behind the arc to keep within striking distance of Penn State Behrend through the first half. Leslie McPherson entered intermission with 8 points and Jessica Pitts pulled down 8 rebounds.
The host Lions shooting heated up in the second half by hitting 13 of 21 shots and as a team they shot 70% from the free throw line to hold on for the win.
Pitts registered her ninth double-double of the year and third in a row with 14 points and 13 boards. Pitts, who leads the AMCC in rebounds and assists, went 7 for 12 from the field and grabbed a season-high 7 offensive rebounds. Amanda Garland scored 12 points to reach double-digits points for the second consecutive game and McPherson played all 40 minutes and finished with 8 points and 4 assists.
The Lady Redhawks were outrebounded for just the second time in conference play (45-27), but finished with more points off turnovers, points in the paint, and fast break points. La Roche also shot a stellar 45% from behind the arc but went just 1 for 9 from the free throw line.
La Roche women's basketball will look for a win when they travel to Pitt-Greensburg on Monday at 6:00PM. The Bobcats currently sit fourth in the AMCC Conference standings and handed Hilbert a 71-55 loss earlier today.
