PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche women's basketball (14-2, 9-1) held the visiting Spartans to their second worst shooting performance of the season as the Lady Redhawks beat a hot D'Youville (5-12, 4-6) team 76-48 on Saturday in AMCC Conference play.
The Lady Redhawks forced four turnovers in the first three minutes to jump out to a 14-0 lead. Casie Cygan finished the half with 18 points including 4 three-pointers and Jessica Pitts grabbed 6 boards and dished out 6 assists.
La Roche's success continued in the second half by controlling the paint and forcing D'Youville into taking bad shots. The Spartans were outrebounded by ten and shot just 23% in the final twenty minutes.
Coach Gissendanner was happy with the win but stressed the importance of playing sound basketball within their system.
"I thought we set the tone for the game early. As a team we have to stay disciplined and consistent on both ends of the ball and continue to get better game in and game out."
Casie Cygan finished with a team-high 25 points and went 5 for 8 from behind the arc. Jessica Pitts registered her eleventh double-double of the season and had a terrific game with 17 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 blocks, and 3 steals. LaShauna Brothers chipped in 14 points to boost her average to 12.2 ppg and Leslie McPherson added 6 points and 6 assists. Amanda Garland notched 8 points, 6 assists, and 5 steals in the win.
The Lady Redhawks netted a season-high 48 points in the paint and outscored D'Youville by twenty from short range. La Roche had 14 steals on 30 turnovers and assisted on 26 of 33 field goals. They also outrebounded the visiting Spartans 42-24.
