ALTOONA, PA – La Roche women's basketball (15-2, 10-1) recorded a season-high thirty steals and forced thirty-nine turnovers in a 98-51 victory over Penn State Altoona (1-17, 1-10) on Wednesday night.
The Lady Redhawks went on a 17-0 run to close the first half and break open a close game. A three-pointer by Casie Cygan and a layup by LaShauna Brothers in the half's closing seconds highlighted the run.
Cygan led all scorers with 23 points and notched career-highs in steals (8) and assists (6). Pitts finished two assists shy of a triple-double for the second straight game. She registered 20 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists, and 6 steals and went 8 of 17 from the field. White netted a career-high 20 points and added 5 assists and 5 steals. Leslie McPherson had a career-best 14 points and 5 steals and LaShauna Brothers chipped in 13 points in the win.
La Roche had one of their best shooting nights of the year hitting 48% of their shots from the field and 73% from the line. The Lady Redhawks forced a season-high 39 turnovers and outscored Penn State Altoona 53-8 in points off turnovers. They also held a 46-24 advantage in points in the paint and a 32-4 edge in fastbreak points.
"We put forth a great team effort. We were able to get alot of people involved offensively and played some fun basketball. However, we'll enjoy the win only for tonight and go back to work for a huge conference matchup on Saturday."
The Lady Redhawks will host Medaille on Saturday at 1:00PM in a battle for first place. La Roche upended the Mavericks in the last two AMCC Conference Championships and defeated their rivals 73-64 on December 8.
