PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche women's basketball (9-1) dropped their first game of the year with an 84-70 loss to NAIA #21 Point Park (10-0). The loss ends their sixteen game home win-streak.
The Pioneers led by fourteen with 1:55 left in the first half but La Roche closed on a 10-0 run and entered halftime trailing just 40-36. LaShauna Brothers had an impressive first half with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals and the Lady Redhawks went 15 for 19 from the free throw line.
Point Park used a 12-0 run midway through the second half to take control of the game and held on for the non-conference win.
Brothers led La Roche with 24 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals and went 10 for 11 from the foul line. Mackenzie O'Donnell finished just a rebound short of a double-double with 15 points and 9 rebounds while Gloria Schifino had a career-high 12 points. Danasha Harris and Macy Pekala each had 3 steals in the loss.
La Roche women's basketball will host Waynesburg University on Thursday at 6PM. Last season, the Lady Redhawks beat the Yellow Jackets 81-77.
