Women's Basketball Nets 66-55 Win Over Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, OH – The Lady Redhawks (18-4, 13-2) never trailed in a 66-55 victory over AMCC conference rival Franciscan University (4-17, 3-12). The victory keeps the women's basketball team tied with Medaille atop the conference standings.

La Roche led by as many as thirteen points and took a 36-29 lead into halftime. Casie Cygan had a terrific first half and notched 11 points while Shataya White added 4 points and 6 rebounds.

The Redhawks started the half on a 6-2 run but Franciscan began to chip away at the lead and cut the deficit to just four points with 5:32 left in regulation. Coach Gissendanner called a timeout to regroup her squad and they responded with an 8-0 run to take control of the game.

Casie Cygan led La Roche with 17 points and Mackenzie O'Donnell added 12 points on 5 for 8 shooting. Danasha Harris registered her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Shataya White contributed 8 points and 9 rebounds. Sabrina McLin finished with 8 points and 6 boards in the win.

La Roche shot just 36% from the floor but they played terrific defense to pick up the win. The Redhawks held Franciscan to just 11% (1 of 9) from three-point range and outrebounded the Barons 37-32.

The Lady Redhawks will travel to Penn State Behrend on Saturday for a rematch of last year's conference championship. The Lady Lions are coming off a 60-51 loss to Pitt-Greensburg.
