Lady Redhawks Earn Fourth Straight Regular Season Title

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The La Roche College women's basketball team (21-4, 16-2) rolled past Hilbert College (4-21, 2-16) 83-38 on Senior Day to secure the #1 seed in the AMCC Tournament next week.

Although the Lady Redhawks will host AMCC Tournament games on their home floor, Saturday's contest marked the last regular-season home game for seniors Leslie McPherson and Casie Cygan.

The visiting Hawks jumped out to an early 6-4 lead in the opening minutes of the game before the Lady Redhawks' defensive pressure quickly erased the deficit and launched La Roche into the lead.

Sabrina McLin connected on a deep three to put the Lady Redhawks ahead 7-6 and sparked a 16-0 run to take a 20-6 advantage. La Roche would never relinquish its lead.

The Lady Redhawks forced 21 turnovers and assisted on 14 of 17 field goals to take a commanding 43-21 lead into the break. Freshman McLin poured in 19 first half points at a blistering 80% (8-10) shooting clip to pace the offensive attack.

The Lady Redhawks continued their torrid pace and suffocating defense in the second half, leading by as many as 47 points with 2:15 remaining in the game.

La Roche held advantages of 43-33 in rebounds, 22-7 in assists, 19-5 in steals and made just nine turnovers.

Senior Casie Cygan poured in 17 points and now sits 18 points away from the Lady Redhawks' all-time career scoring record (1,535).

McLin led all scorers with 22 points, while Mackenzie O'Donnell netted 13 points. McPherson tallied a game-high five assists and Danasha Harris recorded a game-high 13 rebounds (11 offensive) and four steals.

With the win, La Roche improves to 16-2 and secures their fourth-consecutive AMCC Regular Season Championship.

The Lady Redhawks return to action Friday, February 28 in the second round of the AMCC Tournament.
