AMCC Champion Lady Redhawks Fall to York (PA) in NCAA Tournament

YORK, PA – The AMCC Conference Champion Lady Redhawks women's basketball team fell to in their NCAA Tournament First Round game to York College 76-54 on Friday night. Despite the loss, La Roche became the first AMCC team to appear in four consecutive NCAA Tournaments.

York came out in a 2-3 zone and built a 12-7 lead but La Roche began to break down the Spartans defense and find open looks.    

Sabrina McLin hit a wide-open three at the 11:42 mark to get the Lady Redhawks within two. York answered with a layup but LaShauna Brothers and Mackenzie O'Donnell converted 3-point plays on consecutive possessions to go up 17-16.

York ended the half on a 21-3 run and took a 39-20 lead into the half.

Brothers led La Roche with 9 first half points, Danasha Harris grabbed 5 rebounds, and Shataya White forced 4 turnovers.

La Roche held a 10-3 advantage on the offensive glass but the Lady Redhawks shot just 19% in the opening frame while York made 15 of 23 field goals.

The Lady Redhawks began to knock down threes in the second half and shot 38% from the floor but the Spartans lead was too much to overcome.

Brothers finished with a team-high 16 points and hit 4 of 5 shots from beyond the arc. She also grabbed 6 rebounds including 4 on the offensive end.

Mackenzie O'Donnell registered 9 points while Casie Cygan added 8 points. White picked up 4 steals and Cygan and O'Donnell had 3 each.

La Roche shot 29% (20 of 70) from the floor and assisted on 15 of 20 field goals. York held the rebounding edge 49-37 but the Lady Redhawks had the edge on the offensive glass. La Roche also forced 24 turnovers which is seven more than the Spartan's average.
