PITTSBURGH, PA – The women's basketball team dropped their season opener to St. Vincent College 75-55 on Friday night at the Kerr Fitness Center.
St. Vincent shot 50% in the first half to enter the lockeroom with a 41-23 lead. Mackenzie O'Donnell and Sabrina McLin led the Lady Redhawks with 8 points apiece while O'Donnell, Shataya White, and Demetria Coleman each grabbed 3 boards.
La Roche came out of the half on an 8-0 run to get back into it. McLin and White drained threes to cut the deficit to single digits, however the Bearcats answered with their own run and held on for the win.
"It was the tale of two halves", said Coach Gissendanner. "We can't dig ourselves into an 18 point hole in the first half and expect to win games".
O'Donnell led all scorers with 17 points and 9 rebounds. McLin finished with 14 points and 3 steals while White had 12 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Coleman pulled down 7 rebounds in the loss.
La Roche shot 30% (19 of 62) from the field and forced 22 turnovers. They also grabbed 32 boards including 14 on the offensive glass.
The Lady Redhawks will travel to Frostburg State University on Monday to face their former conference rivals. La Roche last played Frostburg State in 2010.
