PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche women's hoops overcame an eleven point deficit with just six minutes left to earn a big 73-70 victory over Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday.
La Roche and Pitt-Greensburg entered the half tied at 33-33 after a very fast paced opening twenty minutes. Sabrina McLin led all scorers with 17 points but the Lady Redhawks shot just 29% from the floor (10 for 35) in the first half.
La Roche trailed by as many as eleven points with less than six minutes left before storming back. McLin played a major role in the comeback hitting two contested threes and the Lady Redhawks were almost perfect down the stretch from the free throw line.
With less than ten seconds left and down two, Greensburg went for the win but Demetria Coleman came down with the big rebound and made both free throws to seal it.
McLin led all scorers with 28 points while Brothers finished with 19 points and went 12 for 12 from the foul line. Mackenzie O'Donnell scored in double digits (15 points) and added 7 rebounds and 4 steals in the comeback win.
The Lady Redhawks had an impressive night from the charity stripe hitting 31 of 37 free throws including twenty-one in the second half. Greensburg controlled the boards and the paint but La Roche forced 23 turnovers and converted them into 22 points.
La Roche women's basketball will travel to Pitt-Bradford on Saturday in a matchup of top ranked teams. Tip-off is 2PM.
