PITTSBURGH, PA – The La Roche women's basketball team dropped their second straight game after falling to Pittsburgh-area rival Carnegie Mellon 81-73 on Monday night. The Lady Redhawks led by as many as seventeen points but a 20-0 CMU third quarter run earned the Tartens the victory.
The game was a story of two halves with La Roche ending the first up 45-35. They outrebounded (18-15) and outshot (54%-52%) Carnegie Mellon while limiting their turnovers to just five. Darrian Johnson and and Sabrina McLin combined to shoot 5 of 6 from three and TiChina Mitchell scored 15 points.
The Tartens came out of the lockerroom on fire to break things open with a 20-0 run. La Roche shot just 27% from the floor in the second half and were outrebounded by nineteen.
McLin led the Lady Redhawks with 24 points. Mitchell finished with 19 points and Danasha Harris had 5 steals.
CMU's Lisa Murphy had a game-high 37 points and went 16 for 16 from the field.
La Roche will travel to Penn State Altoona on Wednesday to open AMCC Conference play. The Lions enter the conference opener with an 0-3 record.
