TiChina Mitchell has been named the USBWA's Division III women's basketball National Player of the Week. Mitchell was selected from a field of over 400 NCAA Division III teams.
Mitchell, a 5-8 junior forward from Woodbridge, Va., averaged 31.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game while shooting 65.8 percent (25-of-38) from the field and 92.3 percent (12-of-13) from both three-point range and the foul line as the Redhawks went 2-0. On Wednesday, she scored 22 points (8-of-15 FG; 6-of-7 FT), while totaling four rebounds, four steals and a block in an 88-61 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) victory over Mt. Aloysius (4-4, 3-1) in a battle for first place. Mitchell followed that up with a school-record 40-point performance (17-of-23 FG; 6-of-6 FT) while adding seven rebounds, four steals and two assists in a 102-50 win over D'Youville (3-6, 0-3). Mitchell currently leads the AMCC and is second in NCAA Division III in scoring (23.9 ppg) for 6-2, 4-0 La Roche.
Mitchell is the second La Roche athlete to win the prestigious award. Former baseball second baseman Colin Feikles received the honor in 2014.
