PITTSBURGH, PA – The Lady Redhawks ran their win-streak to six games and their home win-streak to seven after defeating Washington & Jefferson 72-61 on Sunday afternoon. The victory evens the season series at 1-1 and snaps W&J's seven game win-streak.
The first quarter belonged to Washington & Jefferson but La Roche owned the second. The Lady Redhawks overcame an eight point deficit after the first quarter to get within 29-27 at halftime. Mackenzie O'Donnell played a vital role in the first half scoring 11 points while adding 4 rebounds. A majority of W&J's points came from beyond the arc where they shot 60%.
La Roche came out of the lockerroom determined to break the game open. They outscored the Presidents by twelve in the third quarter while shooting 55% and forcing 11 W&J turnovers. Washington & Jefferson pushed La Roche in the fourth quarter but the Lady Redhawks hit 9 of 14 free throws over the game's final three minutes to hold on for the win.
O'Donnell finished with a game-high 21 points as she continues to climb up the AMCC scoring list into sixth place. O'Donnell also brought down a team-high 9 rebounds. TiChina Mitchell had another big game with 20 points while Sabrina McLin dished out 6 assists.
La Roche's defense was spectacular in the victory. They held W&J to a season low in points, rebounds, field goal attempts, three-point attempts all while forcing a season-high 22 President turnovers.
The Lady Redhawks will host Waynesburg on Tuesday at 3pm for their final game before break.
