HAMBURG, NY – Sabrina McLin became the tenth player in school history to reach 1000 career points after scoring 23 points in the Lady Redhawks victory over Hilbert. La Roche defeated the Hawks 58-46 to run their win-streak to eight games and improve to 5-0 in the AMCC.
Hilbert surprised the Lady Redhawks by taking a 33-29 lead into the lockerroom. Hilbert outscored La Roche by eight in the second quarter and hit 7 of 13 field goals compared to the Lady Redhawks 5 of 16.
La Roche came alive in the third quarter combining a balanced offensive attack with a strong defense. The Lady Redhawks outscored Hilbert 19-6 in the third quarter and they forced 10 turnovers. McLin led the charge with 10 third quarter points including her 1000th which came on a three-pointer with 3:21 left in the quarter. The fourth quarter turned into a defensive battle as the Lady Redhawks held on for their tenth win of the season.
McLin finished with 23 points including 5 three-pointers. Mackenzie O'Donnell (12 points, 7 rebounds) TiChina Mitchell (12 points, 6 rebounds) both scored in double-figures while Danasha Harris pulled down 15 boards. Katelyn Proy had 10 points and 14 rebounds for Hilbert.
Turnovers were the difference in the game with La Roche forcing 22 turnovers and committing just 12. The Lady Redhawks outscored Hilbert by 17 off of turnovers.
The women's basketball team will complete their Buffalo trip tomorrow against Medaille. The Mavericks dropped a conference game to Pitt-Greensburg today.
