Women's Hoops Ups AMCC Lead to Two Games After Beating Bradford 79-74

PITTSBURGH, PA – The Redhawks now have a two game cushion atop the AMCC standings after defeating second place Pitt-Bradford 79-74 on Saturday afternoon. The victory is their eleventh straight and their twelfth against AMCC competition.

La Roche trailed by as many as 13 points in the third quarter before storming back to even it up. The Redhawks used their relentless pressure defense to get back into it and TiChina Mitchell scored six straight points on the fastbreak.

Neither team could gain momentum in the second half and both teams fought down to the wire.  A Darrian Johnson jumper from the left elbow put La Roche up 74-72 with 1:10 left and Gloria Schifino drove the floor to put them ahead four after a Redhawks' defensive stand. Pitt-Bradford cut the deficit to two points with 27 seconds left and then proceeded to foul Schifino who made 1 of 2 foul shots. La Roche made another stop and held on for the five point win.

Mackenzie O'Donnell recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sabrina McLin scored a team-high 18 points while Johnson and Mitchell had 15 apiece. Danasha Harris was terrific with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 assists. Pitt-Bradford's Ali Rinfrette had 36 points in the losing effort.

The Redhawks' offensive efficiency was the difference in the ballgame. La Roche shot 54% (28 of 52) from the field and converted turnovers into 20 easy points.

La Roche will travel to Franciscan University on Monday for an AMCC Conference game. The Barons have won two straight including today's 80-70 victory over Medaille.
