PITTSBURGH, PA – Mackenzie O'Donnell became the eleventh Lady Redhawk and the second in two weeks to score her 1000th career point after recording 17 in La Roche's 71-63 victory over Penn State Behrend.
La Roche struggled on the boards in the first quarter and trailed 19-10 when the buzzer hit. The Lady Redhawks responded with a 9-0 run to open up the second quarter. O'Donnell and TiChina Mitchell each had a pair of layups over the course of the run and Sabrina McLin hit a three-pointer. The teams were nearly even over the final six minutes of the quarter as the Lady Redhawks entered halftime with a slim 28-27 lead. Mitchell and Gloria Schifino each had three steals at intermission.
Penn State Behrend shot 67% from the floor in the third quarter to keep pace with the Redhawks and both teams entered the fourth tied at 47-47. The Lions led by as many as four points in the final quarter but an O'Donnell three-point play and a Sabrina McLin foul shot tied it up. Behrend took back the lead with a free throw but McLin was fouled on the ensuing possession and hit both. Mitchell put the home squad up three with 48 seconds left and O'Donnell preserved the win with her 1000th career point.
Mitchell recorded the double-double with 15 points, 13 rebounds and 4 steals. McLin had a game-high 19 points while O'Donnell added 17 points and 8 rebounds. Danasha Harris finished 14 points and 8 points in the win.
The difference in the ballgame came at the foul line with La Roche making 16 of 20 to Behrend's 10 of 21.
The Lady Redhawks will travel to Mt. Aloysius on Wednesday for an AMCC Conference game. La Roche defeated the Mounties on December 9th 88-61.
