Lady Redhawks Overcome Slow Start to Pick Up Conference Road Win

CRESSON, PA – La Roche overcame poor first-half shooting and a four point halftime deficit to down Mt. Aloysius 66-57 and improve to 11-1 against AMCC competition. The Lady Redhawks can earn a playoff berth with a victory on Saturday.

La Roche shot 23% and made just seven field goals as they struggled in the first half. Their strong perimeter defense and 10 for 14 performance from the free throw line kept them in the game as they entered the half trailing 30-26.

Coach Gissendanner regrouped her squad at intermission and the Lady Redhawks made their move at the start of the fourth quarter. La Roche used an 8-0 run to break a tie game and they never relinquished the lead. La Roche shot 48% (13 of 27) in the second half while holding Mt. Aloysius to just 25% (9 of 36). TiChina Mitchell scored 19 second half points while Danasha Harris scored 8 points and forced 3 steals.

La Roche was outrebounded by seventeen (53-36) but the difference came on the foul line where they hit 24 of 32 free throws. The Lady Redhawks also won the turnover battle (18-13) and turned those turnovers into 21 points.

Mitchell led all scorers with 21 points while O'Donnell finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Danasha Harris brought a terrific all-around game with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals and 3 assists.

The Lady Redhawks will travel to D'Youville College on Saturday for an AMCC Conference game. La Roche upended the Spartans with a 102-50 victory on December 12.
