La Roche Women’s Basketball Strives for Seventh Straight AMCC Title in Upcoming Season

Pittsburgh, PA- The La Roche Women's Basketball Team is looking to make their seventh straight run at an AMCC title in the upcoming 2016-2017 season. On the eve of the new season, the Redhawks aim to bring the same mindset that they have for the past six years: to work together and play the game to their full potential. With a 24-4 overall record, and a 17-1 conference record last season, there is definitely a tradition of success and a name to live up to.

Despite a small roster, the Redhawks are built around elite talent and a strong work ethic. What makes this La Roche team so unique is that they return every upperclassman from last season. Grouping this experienced talent with a freshmen class looking to add to the Redhawk success, the 2016-2017 season is something that everyone on the La Roche campus is looking forward to.

The Redhawks return all five senior starters from last season. AMCC Player of the Year Sabrina McLin and AMCC All-Conference First Teamer TiChina Mitchell are two of the top scorers nationally. 1000 point scorer Mackenzie O'Donnell is a 4-year starter and All-Conference performer while Danasha Harris is one of the top defenders in the nation and a 3-time AMCC Defensive Player of the Year. Gloria Schifino is a 2-year starter at point guard and Darrian Johnson and Dalezsa Regan will provide quality minutes off the bench.

The Redhawks will get their season rolling in November with a handful of non-conference games against Carnegie Mellon, John Carroll, and an appearance in the Washington & Jefferson preseason tournament. The Redhawks open conference play at home on Wednesday, November 30th against Franciscan.

They get in a few conference games in early December before taking on a tournament at Baldwin Wallace. La Roche then will play a bulk of their schedule in January with a majority of road games.

The Redhawks end their conference schedule in mid-February against D'Youville on the road, before making hopefully another run for the AMCC title.

With the resume that the La Roche Women's Basketball team upholds, the 2016-2017 season is sure to be a thrilling and competitive contest that not only the Redhawks but all of the La Roche community is anticipating.
