WASHINGTON, PA – The La Roche women's basketball team advanced to the W&J Tournament Championship Game after defeating Earlham 68-58 in the semifinal on Friday night. The Redhawks will play tomorrow at 4pm against the winner of Case Western and Washington & Jefferson.
The difference in the game came at the foul line where La Roche went 28 for 37 to Earlham's 8 for 17. The Redhawks never relinquished the lead after going up 7-6 halfway through the first quarter but Earlham hung around and trailed just 29-28 at the half.
La Roche broke things open in the third quarter outscoring Earlham 23-11. The Redhawks came out of the lockerroom on a 9-2 run with 6 of the 9 points coming off free throws. Sabrina McLin drained a three-pointer to end the quarter and give La Roche a commanding 52-39 lead.
Earlham was able to get back within eight points late, but like all game, the Redhawks drained their free throws and hung on.
McLin finished with a team-high 25 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals. Mackenzie O'Donnell scored 21 points and hit 9 of 13 free throws and Danasha Harris had 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Darrian Johnson and Gloria Schifino each had 7 points in the win.
