PITTSBURGH, PA – The Redhawks won their tenth straight AMCC Conference game (dating back to last season) by defeating Franciscan University 67-32 in their conference opener on Wednesday night. La Roche improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the AMCC.
The Redhawks never trailed in the game. They jumped out to a 19-4 lead at the end of the first and a 28-13 lead at intermission. Sabrina McLin tallied 13 points in the first half and hit 3 of 4 shots from distance. Franciscan shot just 22% (5 of 23) in the first but hung around because La Roche struggled, shooting just 37% (10 for 27). The Redhawks were excellent in the open court forcing 15 Franciscan turnovers and converting it into 19 points.
La Roche warmed up in the second half. They opened the half on an 11-0 run and scored 32 of the game's next 42 points. Danasha Harris was phenomenal in the second capitalizing on all four of her steals and scoring 12 points. The Redhawks shot a solid 48% (13 of 27) and assisted on 8 of 13 baskets. Mackenzie O'Donnell had 10 second half points.
McLin, the nation's third leading scorer, finished with 20 points and went 4 for 9 from distance. Harris had 15 points and 7 steals while O'Donnell had 15 points and Darrian Johnson 10 points.
The Redhawks forced 30 Baron turnovers and held them to just 26% on the game.
La Roche will host Pitt-Bradford on Saturday in an important AMCC Conference game. Both teams faced-off in last year's AMCC Championship Game.
