CRESSON, PA -- The La Roche women's basketball team improved to 8-4 overall and 5-0 in the AMCC after defeating Mt. Aloysius on the road 70-63. The victory is their fourteenth straight against conference competition.
The Mounties dashed out of the gates and led for most of the first quarter. La Roche did not grab their first lead until two minutes remained in the quarter when they went on a 14-2 run.
The Redhawks continued to play tough defense into the second quarter. They limited Mt. Aloysius to just ten points in the quarter and held them scoreless over the final four minutes before the half.
La Roche built their lead up to as many as twenty points with 3:34 left in the third. The Mounties however closed the quarter on a 10-1 run and did not miss a field goal over that stretch.
Mt. Aloysius inched closer and closer in the fourth quarter cutting the once twenty point deficit to just two with 3:29 to play. The Redhawks responded with a pair of free throws and two straight layups to take a 65-57 lead. The Mounties drove down the court and hit a three but could not get any closer.
TiChina Mitchell scored a game-high 24 points. Danasha Harris continues to rack up double-doubles this time registering 12 points, 11 rebounds and 5 steals. Darrian Johnson finished with 15 points and Mackenzie O'Donnell 12 points.
The Redhawks outrebounded Mt. Aloysius 45-33 while the Mounties won the turnover battle 18-17.
La Roche will make the trek back to Central PA on Saturday to take in Penn State Altoona. The Lions are 2-7 overall and 2-3 in the AMCC.
