ALTOONA, PA -- The La Roche women's basketball team took the road on Saturday for an AMCC Conference game against Penn State Altoona. The Redhawks rolled to victory more than doubling the Lions in points and defeating them 85-42. The win is La Roche's fifteenth straight against conference foes and keeps them at a perfect 6-0 atop the AMCC.
The Redhawks opened the game with two straight 10-2 runs to close the first quarter ahead 22-4. La Roche built their first half lead up to as many as 27 points and entered intermission with a 38-14 advantage.
La Roche's pressure defense held Altoona to just 17% (6 of 35) shooting over the first twenty minutes. The Redhawks shot a solid 50% (15 of 30) and outrebounded Altoona 24-11.
La Roche maintained a similar lead in the third quarter and then ran away in the fourth. They outscored the Lions 29-12 in the fourth and shot 72% (13 of 18).
The Redhawks shot 51% (35 of 68) for the game and held Altoona to 21% and just 13 field goals. They won the rebounding battle 49-32 and outscored them in the paint 60-16.
Mitchell had a game-high 26 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Mackenzie O'Donnell scored 23 points to bring her career total to 1335. Harris finished just 2 assists shy of a double-double with 12 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists. Darrian Johnson had 16 points and Gloria Schifino 6 assists.
The Redhawks will host Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday. Tip off is 6pm.
