PITTSBURGH, PA – Danasha Harris finished with 23 points, 16 rebounds, 9 assists and 7 steals as the Redhawks cruised to a 100-53 victory over D'Youville on Saturday. The victory is their seventeenth straight against AMCC competition and the Redhawks improve to 8-0 in conference.
The Redhawks stormed out of the gates forcing turnovers on D'Youville's first four possessions. The Spartans settled down after the sluggish start and scored the next five points to force Coach Gissendanner to burn a timeout. La Roche answered with a 12-2 run and ended the first quarter ahead 24-9. D'Youville turned the ball over twelve times and Danasha Harris scored 8 points.
D'Youville evened the Redhawks in points over the first five minutes of the second quarter. La Roche dropped from their press to a perimeter defense and scoring slowed down. The Redhawks however reasserted themselves in the second part of the quarter and cruised into halftime.
La Roche entered the half with a 48-27 lead. They shot a solid 56% (20 for 36) in the first half and TiChina Mitchell scored 22 points. D'Youville turned the ball over 18 times which La Roche turned into 17 points.
The Redhawks opened the second half with a 10-3 run and allowed just one field goal over the first five minutes. La Roche on the other hand shot 80% over that span and forced six turnovers.
They followed their short run with another 14-6 run over the final five minutes of the quarter. La Roche held D'Youville to just six points in the third quarter and just one field goal. Six of the Spartans' eight points came at the free throw line.
The Redhawks turned to their reserves in the fourth quarter and continued to rack up points. Celine Monica scored six points in just a three minute stretch in the fourth.
The Redhawks will host Penn State Behrend on Wednesday night. The Lions are 6-9 and 5-3 in conference.
