ERIE, PA -- The La Roche College women's basketball team picked up an important road win defeating Penn State Behrend 76-60 on Wednesday night. The Redhawks reach the conference halfway point with a perfect 9-0 AMCC record.
Behrend kept it close for the game's first twenty-three minutes. It looked like La Roche was about to gain separation with an 8-0 run in the first quarter but the Lions had an answer all throughout the first half. Behrend even used their own 9-0 run in the second quarter but the Redhawks gained traction and held a slight 33-32 lead at the half.
The Lions jumped out to a 36-35 second half lead but the rest of the game belonged to La Roche. The Redhawks reponded with an 8-0 run and scored 13 of the next 17 points. La Roche built their lead to as many as twenty points on back-to-back threes by Darrian Johnson.
Mackenzie O'Donnell led all scorers with 22 points and hit 9 of 12 shots. TiChina Mitchell scored 18 points to continue her double digit point streak. Gloria Schifino and Darrian Johnson each scored 11 points while Danasha Harris had 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
The Redhawks had a strong shooting night. They hit 53% (32 of 61) from the field and 63% from inside of three point range. La Roche also forced twenty-one Behrend turnovers while committing just thirteen.
La Roche will travel to Pitt-Bradford on Saturday for the AMCC Game of the Week. The Bobcats currently sit in second place in the AMCC standings but have lost two straight.
