La Roche Falls To Wooster On Road

WOOSTER, Ohio - The La Roche University baseball team showed early fight Wednesday afternoon but couldn't keep pace with a powerful offense from College of Wooster, falling 14–4 in non-conference action.

La Roche jumped on the scoreboard first in the opening inning. After reaching base and moving around the diamond, DJ Loveland crossed the plate on a ground ball that resulted in a double play, giving the Redhawks a quick 1–0 lead.

Wooster responded immediately, however. A solo home run by Noah Lindberg tied the game before the hosts added two more runs later in the inning to take a 3–1 advantage. Wooster extended the lead to 4–1 in the second.

La Roche answered in the third inning with one of its best stretches of the game. Troy Sallis lined an RBI double to left field to score Alex Perez, and moments later Aaron Exler delivered another RBI double to center to bring home Sallis, cutting the deficit to 4–3.

The momentum was short-lived as Wooster's offense erupted again. A two-run homer by Luke Rizzo in the third pushed the lead to 6–3, and the hosts added three more runs in the fifth to widen the gap.

La Roche picked up its final run in the sixth inning when Samuel DiCicco singled to left field to drive in Exler and make it 9–4.

Despite the loss, the Redhawks produced several solid performances at the plate. Eli Thomas led the offense with a perfect 3-for-4 day, while Exler added two hits and an RBI. DiCicco also recorded two hits and a run batted in, and Sallis finished with a double and an RBI.

On the mound, starter Josh Cayer worked four innings and struck out four. Sallis later came in for relief as La Roche used four pitchers in the contest.

Wooster pulled away late with a big seventh inning, highlighted by Lindberg's second home run of the day, a three-run blast that helped seal the 14–4 final.

La Roche totaled eight hits in the game but couldn't slow Wooster's 18-hit attack. The Redhawks will look to regroup as they continue their early-season schedule.
