MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — La Roche Redhawks rallied late but came up just short in a 5–4 walk-off loss to Manhattanville Valiants on Wednesday afternoon.
La Roche pounded out 13 hits and erased a late two-run deficit in the ninth inning, but Manhattanville answered in the bottom half to seal the nonconference win.
The game started as a tight pitching battle. La Roche starter Izaak Ogrodowczyk worked through the early innings, while Manhattanville's Jack Lally kept the Redhawks off the scoreboard despite steady traffic on the bases.
The Valiants broke through first in the fourth inning. RBI singles from Marco Clara and Alex Exarchakis pushed across two runs and gave Manhattanville a 2–0 advantage.
La Roche answered immediately in the fifth.
DJ Loveland started the rally and later scored when Eli Thomas grounded out to bring the Redhawks within one. Moments later, Liam Burns delivered an RBI single to plate Kade Sell, tying the game at 2–2.
Reliever RJ Kissick provided a strong outing out of the bullpen for La Roche, striking out four across 4.1 innings and keeping the game within reach.
But Manhattanville regained control in the eighth inning. An RBI single from Chris Goohs put the Valiants ahead, and Scott Ennist Jr. added another run during a play in which he was thrown out trying to stretch the hit, extending the lead to 4–2.
La Roche refused to go quietly.
With two outs in the ninth, Kade Sell sparked the rally. Chase Sankovich, who finished with a perfect 4-for-4 day, ripped an RBI double to make it 4–3.
Moments later, Burns came through again, lining an RBI double to tie the game 4–4 and cap the Redhawks' comeback effort.
Manhattanville had the final answer in the bottom of the ninth. After a leadoff baserunner reached and moved into scoring position, Griffin White lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed the winning run to score, handing the Valiants the 5–4 walk-off victory.
