MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — La Roche Redhawks erased an early six-run deficit with a powerful offensive surge to defeat the Dean Bulldogs, 13–8, on Wednesday afternoon.
La Roche matched Dean with 11 hits but capitalized on key opportunities and late-inning execution to pull away after falling behind early.
Dean struck first with a solo home run by Jacob Paschetto in the opening inning and added another run in the second to take a 2–0 lead.
The Bulldogs extended their advantage in the third inning, scoring four runs on a series of RBI hits to push the lead to 6–0.
La Roche quickly responded with a five-run rally in the bottom of the third to get back into the game.
After a passed ball allowed the Redhawks to get on the board, Aaron Exler delivered a two-run double to cut the deficit to 6–3. Troy Sallis followed with an RBI single, and Ricky Heyz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in another run as La Roche trimmed the lead to 6–5.
The momentum carried into the fourth inning. A passed ball allowed Logan Badac to score the tying run before Gabriel Pastrana lined a two-run single to put La Roche ahead 8–6.
Dean responded with solo home runs from Matthew Dutton and Gavin Goss in the fifth inning to even the score at 8–8.
The Redhawks regained the lead in the sixth inning when Pastrana delivered another RBI single to score Exler. Moments later, aggressive baserunning allowed Pastrana to score on a defensive error, extending the lead to 10–8.
La Roche added three insurance runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by an RBI hit-by-pitch from Sallis, a wild pitch that brought in another run, and an RBI hit-by-pitch from DJ Loveland to make it 13–8.
Reliever Jimmy Roe provided a key performance out of the bullpen, tossing three scoreless innings to earn the win and stabilize the game after Dean's early offensive burst. Troy Sallis closed out the final outs to secure the victory.
