PITTSBURGH, PA - The Allegheny Moutain Collegiate Conference released the All-Conference Men's Basketball teams, Coach of the Year, and Player of the year.
To start off, Head Coach Hermie Carmichael was named AMCC Coach of the Year. Coach Carmichael finished this season with a conference record of 13-1, and won the AMCC Championship tournament this past Saturday defeating Penn State Altoona. Carmichael has won three AMCC Championship Titles and will make his 3rd NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend against Stockton.
Devon Darrell has been named AMCC Player of the Year, and also to the AMCC All-Conferened First team. He scored his 1,000th collegiate career point, had the highest scoring game of 33 points, and most importantly, led his team to AMCC Regular Season Champions and the No. 1 seed for championship playoffs. Over the season, the senior played 835 minutes, netted 490 points, and snagged 89 boards, 106 assists, and 36 steals. Darrell averages 21.4 points per game in conference and shoots just over 52% from the floor. He also shows how unselfish he is with the ball even though he does rack up a lot of points in a game; he averages 4.5 assists per game, as well as 5 rebounds per game.
Joe Pipilo has been named to the AMCC All-Conference Second Team. Pipilo this season has been the rock for the La Roche team. He may not have consistently scored the most points, but he did bring a calming presence to the court.
Pip averages just over 13 points per game and just under 7 rebounds. He averages 39% from the deep behind the three-point arc and is sure to stay vigilant on defense, earning the senior 25 total steals this season. Pipilo is also the first man to crash the boards with a shot goes up, making himself 139 rebounds for the season so far.
