Redhawks Fall To Presidents Before Holiday Break

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - La Roche men's basketball played host to W&J to close the 2025 portion of the schedule, but were unable to hold off a huge second half by the Presidents, falling, 99-77.

It took over two minutes for a point to be scored and in the 55 seconds following the opening bucket, W&J had opened a 7-2 lead.

Nearing the midway point of the first half, La Roche saw itself trailing, 24-15, then later, with 5:39 to go, still trailed, 33-27.

A pair of huge three-pointers by the Redhawks tied the game at 33-33 with 4:26 to go before the half and the teams duked it out to a 41-40 halftime score in favor of the Presidents.

The first six minutes of the second half continued to be see the teams trading off scores and the lead, but with 14:01 to go, W&J began a 12-1 run, building a 70-57 lead, as the midway point came about.

The remainder of the contest saw La Roche only be able to come to within nine points, as the Presidents shot 65.8% in the second half to pull away with the victory.

La Roche finished the contest shooting 32-for-69 (46.4%) from the field, 7-for-21 (33.3%) from three-point and 6-for-8 (75%) from the foul line.

W&J ended the game shooting 40-for-70 from the floor (57.1%), 4-for-17 (23.5%) from deep and 15-for-21 (71.4%) from the free-throw line.

Major Riney continued his stellar play, scoring a team-high 23 points on 9-for-15 shooting, while adding nine rebounds and four blocks.

Bryce Epps collected 17 points on 8-for-14 shooting, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Logan Golle was the third player in double figures with 12 points.

The Redhawks get an extended break into the New Year, before opening 2026 on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 3 p.m. when they play Brockport on the road in New York.
