La Roche Holds Off Alfred State Down the Stretch, 81–73, On Senior Day

PITTSBURGH, PA — The La Roche University men's basketball team continued its strong finish to the 2025-26 season with a resilient 81–73 victory over Alfred State College on Saturday night. With the win, the Redhawks added another key conference triumph and kept their momentum high in the late AMCC schedule.

From the opening tip, La Roche showed the balance that has been a hallmark of its offense all season. The Redhawks traded runs with Alfred State early, with both teams finding success in transition and converting on second-chance opportunities. La Roche's length and physicality inside helped it stay within striking distance whenever the Pioneers pushed ahead, and timely buckets from perimeter shooters allowed the Redhawks to keep the score close heading into halftime.

After the break, La Roche flipped the switch on both ends of the floor. The Redhawks tightened their defense, forcing Alfred State into difficult midrange jumpers while securing key rebounds that limited second-chance points. Offensively, La Roche's ball movement created open looks and led to a string of points that nudged the lead in its favor midway through the second half.

Despite a late push from Alfred State — including a couple of scoring spurts that briefly pulled the Pioneers within single digits — La Roche responded with clutch plays in critical moments. The Redhawks hit crucial free throws down the stretch and made contested shots in the paint to maintain their lead and deny Alfred State the chance to overtake them.

La Roche's core delivered once again, combining efficient scoring with smart defensive plays when it mattered most. The win not only added to the Redhawks' conference résumé but also reinforced their resilience in close AMCC contests as the postseason draws nearer.
