Redhawks Drop Doubleheader Wednesday

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — La Roche softball took the field for games five and six of eight on its trip to Florida, but were unable to come awy with a victory on Wednesday.

GAME ONE: Saint Joseph (Conn.) 8 LRU 6

The Redhawks wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning.

Brooke Murgenovich started the rally and scored when Maura Wade singled to center field. Moments later, Taylor Young added an RBI single to bring home Wade and make it 2–0.

The biggest swing came from Rachel Malatok, who lined a bases-clearing triple to right field that scored Ashlee Bair, Young, and Gabby Sbraccia, giving La Roche a commanding 5–0 lead.

Saint Joseph answered in the second inning, capitalizing on a defensive miscue that allowed two runs to score and cut the deficit to 5–2.

The Blue Jays continued to close the gap in the third, when Brenna Lyver delivered a two-run single to center field to make it 5–4.

La Roche pushed another run across in the third inning. Cassidee Fitterer singled to right field to bring home Sydney Leahy, extending the Redhawks' lead to 6–4.

Saint Joseph kept pressure on the Redhawks throughout the later innings. An error in the fifth allowed another run to score, trimming the lead to 6–5.

The Blue Jays then completed the comeback in the seventh inning. A fielder's choice tied the game before Madelyn Ellis delivered a two-run double down the left-field line to give Saint Joseph its first lead at 8–6.

Several Redhawks contributed offensively:

GAME TWO: SUNY Cobleskill 8 LRU 5

The Fighting Tigers struck early in the first inning, scoring on a wild pitch before adding another run on a sacrifice fly to take a 2–0 lead.

Cobleskill extended the advantage in the second inning with another sacrifice fly, pushing the score to 3–0.

La Roche responded in a big way during the third inning, plating five runs to take control.

Brooke Murgenovich started the rally and later scored when Finley Hohn drew an RBI walk. Moments later, a wild pitch allowed Klover Haberthier to score, cutting the deficit to one.

The Redhawks then broke the game open when Cassidee Fitterer reached on an error in right field, allowing Taylor Young, Hohn, and Maura Wade to score as La Roche surged ahead 5–3.

Cobleskill answered immediately in the bottom of the third with an RBI single to make it 5–4.

The Tigers continued to chip away in the fourth inning, tying the game with an RBI single before taking the lead during a double-play sequence that brought another run home, making it 6–5.

Cobleskill added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend its lead to 8–5.

Haberthier led the Redhawks offense with a perfect performance at the plate.
