Redhawks Split Doubleheader Against Penn State Beaver

BEAVER, Pa. - La Roche softball traveled to Penn State Beaver on Saturday and despite a game one loss, bounced back to dominate game two, splitting the day.

GAME ONE: PS Beaver 10 LRU 7

La Roche University Redhawks got on the board in the top of the first inning after Fitterer doubled to center field, and Hohn grounded out, each scoring one run.

Penn State Beaver made the score 3-2 in the bottom of the first after Mays singled, scoring two runs, and Benson grounded out, scoring one run.
 
La Roche University Redhawks took the lead, 5-3, in the top of the third thanks to doubles by Fitterer, and Hohn.
 
Penn State Beaver tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a fielder's choice by Riordan, and a sacrifice fly by Cook.
 
A fly out by Wade gave La Roche University Redhawks the lead, 6-5, in the top of the sixth.
 
Penn State Beaver flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 10-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to left field by Boyd that drove in two.
Mays earned the win for Penn State Beaver. The starter gave up eight hits and seven runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out two and walking two. 
 
Wade took the loss for La Roche University Redhawks. The hurler went five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, striking out seven and walking one.
 
Fitterer provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led La Roche University Redhawks with three runs batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Wade led La Roche University Redhawks with three hits in four at bats from the leadoff position. Murgenovich stole two bases.

GAME TWO: LRU 11 PS Beaver 0 F/5

La Roche University Redhawks defeated Penn State Beaver 11-0 on Saturday at PSU Beaver Athletic Fields. Hohn doubled in the third inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the second inning.

La Roche University Redhawks won thanks in part to seven runs in the second inning. Fitterer hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Hohn singled, scoring one run, Bair singled, scoring one run, Haberthier singled, scoring one run, Grimm doubled, scoring two runs, and Wade singled, scoring one run.

La Roche University Redhawks opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to three singles. La Roche University Redhawks first got on the board when Hohn singled, scoring one run.

A double by Hohn extended the La Roche University Redhawks lead to 11-0 in the top of the third inning.

Young earned the win for La Roche University Redhawks. The hurler surrendered one hit and zero runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking five. Boyd took the loss for Penn State Beaver. The starter went one and one-third innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits, striking out none and walking three. Wade tossed one inning of shutout ball for La Roche University Redhawks in relief. The hurler surrendered one hit, striking out none and walking none.

La Roche University Redhawks piled up 15 hits in the game. Fitterer and Young each collected multiple hits for La Roche University Redhawks. La Roche University Redhawks had a strong eye at the plate, piling up five walks for the game. La Roche University Redhawks turned one double play in the game. La Roche University Redhawks were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Hohn made the most plays with seven.
