LATROBE, Pa. - La Roche traveled to take on St. Vincent for a doubleheader on Tuesday, but fell short in both of the matchups against the Bearcats.
GAME ONE: St. Vincent 7 LRU 0
The game was largely decided in the opening inning, as St. Vincent capitalized on early control issues and defensive miscues to plate four runs. La Roche used multiple pitchers in the frame, but a combination of walks, hits, and errors quickly created a deficit that proved difficult to overcome.
St. Vincent added to its lead in the second inning and continued to chip away with single runs in the fourth and fifth. Their offense was powered by timely hitting, including a home run by Eva Farone and a triple from Josey Michalski, while aggressive baserunning kept pressure on La Roche's defense throughout the game.
After the first inning, La Roche's pitching staff settled in. Maura Wade provided a strong stretch in the circle, tossing 2.2 innings while allowing just one run and striking out three. Finley Hohn followed with three innings of work, surrendering two runs, including the lone home run of the game.
Offensively, La Roche was limited to four hits and was unable to generate sustained scoring threats against St. Vincent pitcher A.J. Arnal, who went the distance. Brooke Murgenovich, Taylor Young, Katie Grimm, and Briana Wynn each recorded a hit, but the Redhawks were unable to string together timely at-bats. A caught stealing by Murgenovich also halted one of La Roche's few opportunities to build momentum.
GAME TWO: St. Vincent 9 LRU 1 F/6
La Roche came out with early energy, striking first in the opening inning. Maura Wade reached and later scored on an RBI single to right-center by Finley Hohn, giving the Redhawks a brief 1–0 lead and an encouraging start at the plate.
The lead, however, was short-lived. St. Vincent responded immediately in the bottom of the first, stringing together multiple hits to score three runs and take control of the game. That momentum carried into the second and third innings, where additional timely hits and extra-base knocks extended the advantage.
St. Vincent's offense proved consistent throughout, collecting 14 hits on the day. Eva Farone led the charge with a standout performance, including a home run and a double, while Mackenzie Favero and Emily Dudenhoeffer each contributed multiple hits. The home team used a mix of power and situational hitting, adding runs in five different innings.
In the circle, Taylor Young took the loss after allowing six runs over 2.1 innings. Finley Hohn and Maura Wade followed in relief, with Wade providing 2.2 innings of work to close out the game.
Offensively, La Roche showed improvement compared to the previous contest, finishing with seven hits. Wade led the way with two hits and a run scored, while Gabby Sbraccia added a pair of hits, including a double. Anastacia Jacobs and Briana Wynn also contributed hits as the Redhawks were able to put more runners on base.
Despite the increased offensive output, La Roche was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leaving seven runners on base and failing to produce another run after the first inning.
