Women's Bowling Picked to Finish 5th in Preseason Poll

NORTH BOSTON, NY - Wednesday morning, the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference released the 2021 women's bowling preseason coaches poll. The Redhawks were picked to place 5th out of 8 conference teams after finishing tied for 6th last season and narrowly missing the postseason.

Medaille College was picked to finish first first followed by Saint Vincent College, Mount Aloysius, Penn St. Behrend, La Roche, New Jersey City, Penn St. Altoona and Hilbert. Saint Vincent senior Dani Koehler and Medaille sophomore Sarah Radt have been tabbed as the AMCC Preseason Co-Bowlers of the Year. Last years 2020 AMCC Bowling Championship was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

La Roche's two "Players to Watch" this season are sophomore Ashley Kennedy (Warminster, PA / William Tennent) and senior Alyssa Smith (Pittsburgh, PA / Bishop Canevin).

Last season, as a freshman, Kennedy was selected to the AMCC All-Conference third team and was named the AMCC Bowler of the Week (Jan. 30, 2020). She posted an average score of 168.7 in traditional play and 158.2 in the baker format, both team bests. She recorded 151 stikes with a 27.1% strike percentage and made 61.7% of makable spares.

Alyssa Smith was picked to be the 2021 captain of the women's bowling team. Last season, Smith bowled in nearly every single match. She bowled 536 frames, recorded 116 strikes and 183 spares (all 2nd most on team).

LRU faces off against Penn St. Altoona, New Jersey City and Mt. Aloysius in AMCC Round Robin #1 next Satuday, February 20th at Playmor Lanes. Spectators will not be permitted but check our website for live stream links and follow us on social media @larocheredhawks for live updates.
