Redhawks Fall In Opener To Bethany

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - After a solid opening set to start 2025, La Roche volleyball was unable to hold on, falling to Bethany, 3-1, in the season opener.

The Redhawks would fall behind early in the opening set, 4-1, but quickly turned things around, scoring 13 of the next 20 points to take a 14-11 lead of their own at the midway point.

Bethany would climb back within two at 19-17, but La Roche dominated the remainder of the set, using a 6-0 run to take set one.

The Bison would flip the game in set two, jumping ahead 12-5, and never allowing the Redhawks to come within four points the rest of the way to even the match at 1-1.

Set three again saw Bethany storm out to an 11-6 edge, but this time, La Roche would use a brief run to trim the deficit to 11-10.

After alternating points and the score still in favor of Bethany, 14-13, the Bison rattled off 10 of the next 13 points to eventually take set three, 25-19 and a 2-1 match lead.

The fourth and final set nearly mirrored set three. Bethany jumped ahead 12-7 and the Redhawks pushed back to make it 12-11. Yet again, the Bison scored 13 of the final 19 in the set to take the victory, 3-1.

Kalli Grine would lead the way on the offensive end, picking up 11 kills on the night, while Megan Bologna and Mackenzie Myers both added nine kills each.

Estelle Winck led the assist total with 31, a game high, while Kaci DePalma brought in 27 digs, followed by Myers with 17, falling just one kill short of a double-double.

The Redhawks return to action on Friday, Sept. 5 when they play host to Penn State Greater Allegheny. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m.
