PITTSBURGH, Pa. - La Roche volleyball picked up its first victory of the 2025 season, sweeping Penn State Greater Allegheny, 3-0.
The first set saw the Redhawks jump ahead to a 5-1 lead, but fell behind 11-9 as the midway point approached.
La Roche dominated the remainder of the opening set, outscoring the Lions, 16-6, to take the victory, 25-17.
Set two was all Redhawks in the opening stages and beyond, storming out to a 19-8 lead. However, Greater Allegheny charged back to make it 24-21, but La Roche would finally pick up the final point to go ahead 2-0 in the match.
Set three was a nailbiter, as the final score went into extra points, 26-24.
The Redhawks held an early lead of 11-6, looking to put a quick finish on the night, but the Lions would counter, scoring 11 of the next 13 points to take a lead of 17-13.
Toward the end stages of the set, La Roche still trailed, 22-19, but the red and white would finish strong, scoring seven of the final nine points to seal the victory.
Kalli Grine again led the way offensively with 10 kills, this time a co-leader with Mackenzie Myers, who also finished with 10.
Myers fell just a dig short of a double-double with nine on the night, while Kaci DePalma led the way with 13.
Estelle Winck provided a team-high 18 assists, while Riley Lewis provided nine assists.
The Redhawks are right back in action on Saturday, Sept. 6, when they host Penn State Beaver at 1 p.m.
