Redhawks Celebrate Senior Day Clinching AMCC Tournament Bid

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - La Roche women's volleyball celebrated a pair of seniors before a win or go home regular season finale. In a thrilling, 3-0 sweep, the Redhawks clinched an AMCC Tournament bid, defeating Alfred State.

With the victory, the Redhawks concluded AMCC play with a 4-4 mark and clinched the #5 seed in the AMCC Tournament.

Set one saw an early spark by La Roche, rolling to a 12-3 lead through the opening 15 points of play. The remainder of the set was ensuring the lead held and the Redhawks did so, never allowing the Pioneers to come within four points at any point, winning, 25-20, going ahead, 1-0 in the match.

The second set was more even throughout the early stages and saw Alfred State holding an edge after 21 points of play, 12-9. The Redhawks found a counter and it was in the form of a 7-2 run that built a 16-14 edge.

The Pioneers would fight back to regain the lead at 21-20, but a 5-1 run by La Roche ended the set, 25-22 and gave the red and black a 2-0 match lead.

Set three was far from easy for La Roche to close the match. Alfred State stormed ahead to what looked to be an insurmountable, 17-8 lead. The Redhawks slowly chipped away at the deficit, utilizing a 10-3 run to trail by only two points, 20-18.

The Pioneers final counter led to a 24-19 lead, but the remainder of the set belonged to a surging La Roche. The Redhawks found the much needed last push and finished the third set with a 7-0 run to win in extra points, 26-24.

Leading the way offensively for La Roche was senior Kalli Grine and she put on a show in her final home game as a Redhawk, finishing with eight kills, seven digs, three solo blocks and five assisted blocks.

Fellow senior, Megan Bologna, provided six kills to follow Grine, while adding 10 digs. Olivia Sickmiller also chipped in six kills offensively.

Estelle Winck led the way with 17 assists and on the defensive end, Kaci DePalma had a team high 12 digs, while Ava Fox also had a great game one the block with one solo and five assisted.

As previously mentioned, La Roche earned the #5 seed in the AMCC Tournament with the victory and will face #4 Hilbert on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
