Marchionda Era Begins For La Roche Volleyball
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - La Roche University Director of Athletics Katherine Golebie announced the hiring of Michael Marchionda as the next head coach of the Women's Volleyball Program.

"We are excited to welcome Michael Marchionda to La Roche University to lead our women's volleyball program" said Golebie. "Michael brings a strong background in coaching, education, leadership, and student development. His energy, communication style, and commitment to building a positive program culture stood out throughout the process. We look forward to the future of La Roche Women's Volleyball under his leadership."

Marchionda brings more than 35 years of experience in Western Pennsylvania volleyball as a player, coach, official, mentor, and program builder.

He previously served as head coach at Montour High School, where he led the program to 14 section championships, a WPIAL championship, a PIAA runner-up finish, and multiple postseason appearances. His former players and assistant coaches have gone on to win multiple WPIAL championships, and his programs have developed athletes who advanced to NCAA Division I, II, and III volleyball.

Marchionda also served as interim head women's volleyball coach at Robert Morris University, where he led the Colonials to an NEC Tournament semifinal appearance.

As a player, he was an NCAA Division I letterwinner at The Ohio State University, was named one of Volleyball Monthly's Fab 50 Prep Players in America, was a two-time PIAA First Team selection, a three-time WPIAL First Team selection, and a WPIAL champion at Montour.

In addition to his volleyball background, Marchionda has spent more than 30 years in education as a teacher, curriculum leader, school administrator, and education technology executive. He is the founder and CEO of WisdomEDU, an education technology company focused on improving student writing, feedback, and growth through the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

"I am honored and excited to join La Roche University as the head women's volleyball coach," said Marchionda. "Volleyball has been part of my life in Western Pennsylvania for more than 35 years, and I am grateful for the opportunity to bring that experience, energy, and commitment to the Redhawk's program."

Marchionda's coaching philosophy centers on clear communication, player development, role clarity, accountability, and a competitive team culture.

"La Roche is a special place with a mission that aligns deeply with who I am as an educator and coach," said Marchionda. "My goal is to recruit student-athletes who love volleyball, want to grow, and are excited to help build something meaningful."

Marchionda will begin immediately with a focus on connecting with returning student-athletes, building the incoming roster, strengthening regional recruiting pipelines, and preparing the Redhawk's for the upcoming season.
