PITTSBURGH, PA – Ed Skoneiczny and Chester Kirkwood each hit the first home runs of their careers as La Roche Baseball (12-3, 2-0) swept Pitt-Bradford (10-7, 0-2) 6-4, 15-6 in an AMCC Conference game at John Arnold Sr. Memorial Field.
The Redhawks trailed 4-1 in the fifth inning of game one before coming back. Colin Fiekles led off the fifth inning with a single and Kirkwood followed with a single before Skoneiczny homered to tie the game at 4-4. La Roche added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on passed balls.
Skoneiczny went 1 for 2 with a three run home run and Kirkwood finished 1 for 1 with an RBI and two runs scored. Sean Lubin and Colin Fiekles each registered an RBI in the win.
La Roche scored at least a run in the first five innings of game two including two runs on a Kirkwood home run.
Starting pitcher James Connelly got the win allowing three runs on four hits while striking out seven in five innings. Kirkwood went 1 for 1 with a two run home run and three runs scored and was hit twice. Anthony Girdano and Brian Herb each went 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Mitchell Meyers scored three runs.
La Roche Baseball will host Penn State Greater Allegheny on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 3:00PM. Last season the Redhawks beat the Lions 8-7 at John Arnold Sr. Memorial Field.
