PITTSBURGH, PA – Mitchell Meyers and Sean Lubin finished with four hits apiece as the Redhawks (16-4, 5-1) swept Hilbert College (1-13, 0-4) 8-7, 6-5 in an AMCC Conference game at John Arnold Sr. Memorial Field.
Starting pitcher Cole Lentz recorded the game one win. He threw six strong innings allowing one run on five hits while striking out six batters and walking none.
The Redhawks overcame a one run deficit in the sixth inning to get the game two win.
Adam Brydon reached first base on a hit by pitch to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning and Dustin Lalle followed with a single. Casey Zimmerman who was pinch running for Brydon scored on the next at bat when Mitchell Meyers singled him home. Anthony Girdano followed with a sacrifice fly to score Lalle and take a 6-5 lead.
The visiting Hawks were threatening in the top of the seventh inning before La Roche turned a tough double-play to end the game.
Starting pitcher Reed Tomlinson threw all seven innings allowing five runs on ten hits while striking out seven batters.
Brian Herb and Chester Kirkwood both went 1 for 3 with two RBI. Mitchell Meyers, Sean Lubin, and Dustin Lalle each recorded two hits in the win.
The Redhawks will travel to Marietta College on Monday, April 11 at 4:00PM for a double-header. Marietta is currently ranked third in the country.
