Bauer Loses Perfect-Game in Fifth Inning as Redhawks Sweep Franciscan

PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche Baseball (18-4, 7-1) extended their win streak to four games and took the outright lead in the AMCC Conference standings with a double-header sweep of Franciscan University (4-15, 3-7) 9-1, 9-2 at John Arnold Sr. Memorial Field.

Starting pitcher, James Connelly, threw his second complete game of the season to record the game one win. Connelly, who leads the AMCC Conference in wins (6), allowed one run on eight hits while striking out seven batters.

George Nahay went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored and Ed Skonieczny scored all three times he reached base. Anthony Girdano drove in three runs on a pair of singles in the win.

Game two starting pitcher, Jesse Bauer had a perfect-game through 4 2/3 innings until Franciscan third baseman Thomas Costello broke it up. Sean Lubin made a spectacular play on a slow ground ball but his throw was a hair late as Costello reached base.

Despite losing out on the perfect game, Bauer got the win. He allowed two runs on four hits while striking out nine batters in six innings. Ryan Shelley threw a scoreless seventh inning to preserve the 9-2 win.

Dustin Lalle reached base three times and drove in two runs. George Nahay finished with two hits including a two-run double and Colin Feikles scored twice.

The Redhawks will travel to D'Youville College on Saturday, April 16 at 1:00PM to take on the Spartans. La Roche swept D'Youville last season 12-0, 12-1 at John Arnold Sr. Memorial Field.
