Tomlinson Throws Eight Strong Innings in 4-1 Loss to #2 Marietta
MARIETTA, OH – The Redhawks (20-7) received eight strong innings from starting pitcher Reed Tomlinson but could not muster enough offense as they fell to #2 Marietta (27-3) 4-1 in a non-conference game at Don Schaly Stadium.
Tomlinson (3-1, 2.54) threw all eight innings for La Roche allowing four runs (three earned runs) on eight hits while striking out three and walking none.
Marietta took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning but the Redhawks answered in the top of the second. Anthony Girdano got hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and two batters later Ed Skonieczny singled him home. Skonieczny got to second base on a single by Chester Kirkwood but was picked off and Dustin Lalle grounded out to the second baseman to end the inning.
La Roche threatened to take the lead in the third inning but stranded a runner at third base. Mitchell Meyers led off the inning with a walk and reached third base on a sacrifice bunt and a throwing error but a 5-4-3 double play ended the threat.
Marietta scored two runs in the sixth inning and another in the eighth inning to take control of the ballgame.
Ed Skonieczny finished with two hits and an RBI and Anthony Girdano had a hit and scored a run. Mitchell Meyers and Chester Kirkwood each reached base twice.
The Redhawks will return to AMCC Conference action on Saturday, April 23 at 1:00PM when they travel to Penn State Behrend.
