Meyers Records Four Hits in 13-2 Win Over W&J

WASHINGTON, PA – Mitchell Meyers recorded four hits and Casey Zimmerman added three as La Roche (26-12) topped Washington & Jefferson College (19-19) 13-2 in a non-conference game at Ross Memorial Park.

The Redhawks took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Ed Skonieczny led off the inning with a walk and then stole second base. Meyers followed with a bunt single to move Skonieczny to third base and Chester Kirkwood laid down a sacrifice bunt to score him. Meyers and Nick Beamenderfer also scored runs in the inning.

La Roche added two runs apiece in the sixth and seventh innings, four in the eighth, and three in the ninth for the blowout win.

Starting pitcher, Adam Sepesy, threw 3 2/3 innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out two batters. Ryan Fennell recorded his third career win after 2 1/3 innings of work. Ray Snyder, Reed Tomlinson, and Tim Devine combined for three scoreless innings.

Mitchell Meyers went 4 for 5 and scored four runs. Dustin Lalle, Anthony Girdano, Chester Kirkwood, and Casey Zimmerman registered two RBI each and Zimmerman stole two bases. Ed Skonieczny and Nick Beamenderfer scored two runs apiece.

La Roche Baseball will travel to Altoona, PA on Thursday at 9:00AM to take on Penn State Berhend in the Championship Round of the AMCC Tournament. The winner of the AMCC Tournament receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.
