Redhawks Win AMCC Conference Championship! Clinch Berth in NCAA Tournament

PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche Baseball (24-17) won their first-ever AMCC Conference Title and clinched a berth in the NCAA Tournament with a 14-4 win over Mt. Aloysius College (19-27-1). The victory is the most lopsided championship game in AMCC Tournament history.

Ryan Fennell hit a 2-run double in the first inning to give the Redhawks a 2-0 lead before Mt. Aloysius took a 3-2 in the third. Dustin Lalle made a terrific sliding play in centerfield to prevent the Mounties from adding another run and La Roche answered in a massive way by scoring ten runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Brian Tougher's 3-run knock highlighted the ten run inning and Mitchell Meyers and Dustin Lalle registered 2 RBI each. 8 of 9 Redhawks scored runs and La Roche went through their entire order before recording an out. Casey Zimmerman and Lalle added runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.

Brian Tougher hit a 3-run shot for his first career home run and Ryan Fennell capped off a stellar AMCC Tournament with a 5 for 5 performance including 3 RBI and 2 doubles. Casey Zimmerman went 3 for 5 and scored 4 runs and Dustin Lalle added 3 RBI. Five Redhawks provided 3+ hits and all nine starters recorded at least one hit and reached base twice. La Roche had a whopping 23 hits in the game.

Reed Tomlinson threw 6 1/3 innings of solid baseball and allowed just 4 runs on 7 hits while Walt Hadjuk and Jesse Bauer combined for a scoreless two innings.

With the win the Redhawks clinched a berth into their first-ever NCAA Tournament. They will find out where they travel tomorrow night.
