Redhawks Earn First-Ever NCAA Tournament Win With 3-2 Victory Over Westminster

Marietta, OH – La Roche Baseball (25-18) earned their first-ever NCAA Tournament win with a 3-2 victory over Westminster College (28-17) on Thursday action in the Mideast Regional.

Redhawks' starting pitcher Cole Lentz did not allow a runner to reach scoring position until a fielder's choice and sacrifice fly scored two runs in the sixth. Lentz strong performance gave La Roche the opportunity to break out the bats and overcome a 2-run eighth inning deficit.

Shane Healy led off the eighth inning with a double and Casey Zimmerman singled to put runners on the corners. Brian Tougher followed with a sacrifice fly to score Healey before an error scored Zimmerman. A few batters later, Dan Burns singled home Ryan Fennell to give La Roche the lead for good.

Shane Healey went 2 for 3 with a double, stolen base, and run scored from the leadoff spot. Mitchell Meyers singled twice and Sean Lubin reached twice and stole a base. Casey Zimmerman and Ryan Fennell both singled and scored while Brian Tougher and Dan Burns each provided RBI.

Redhawks' hurlers, Cole Lentz and Jesse Bauer, were impressive on the mound. Lentz allowed just 2 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings while Bauer struck out 3 batters in 3 scoreless innings.

The Redhawks resume play tomorrow (Thursday) at 1:00PM against tonight's Manchester vs. Adrian loser. The winner of tomorrow's 1:00PM game will play at 8:00PM tomorrow night.
