Baseball Extends Home Win-Streak to 14 Games in Victory Over Baldwin Wallace

PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche Baseball (11-3) extended their win-streak to 5 games and their home win-streak to 11 games with a 4-3 win over Baldwin Wallace (10-3) on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets are currently receiving 52 votes in the NCAA Division III national poll.

It's a great win for our program against a very good team from the best conference in Division III baseball," said Coach Rowe. "We got a quality start from Tyler Ferguson and our bullpen did their end of things.  When we play solid defense and don't give extra bases we can play with any team in the country."

Shane Healey drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first inning and scored two batters later on a groundout by Anthony Girdano to take a 1-0 lead.

The Redhawks added 2 more runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-0 advantage.  With 2 outs in the inning, Matt Sabitini was hit by a pitch and Colin Williamson followed with a single up the middle. Healey came through with an RBI single and Williams scored on a wild pitch.

La Roche added a run in the fourth inning when Andrew Zeger scored on a Healey sacrifice fly, but Baldwin Wallace fought its way back into the game with 2 runs in the sixth inning and a run in the seventh inning. The Yellow Jackets had the tying run at third base in the top of the ninth inning but Jesse Bauer got Brad Gugliotta to ground out to end the game.

Healey went 1 for 2 with a walk, run scored, and 2 RBI and Williamson singled, walked, and scored. Sabitini went 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored and Zeger reached base and scored. Anthony Girdano had an RBI groundout in the win.

Ferguson (2-2) registered his second consecutive win. He threw 6 1/3 innings and allowed just 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 5 batters. Tim Devine and Walt Hadjuk combined for an inning of scoreless relief and Bauer threw 1 2/3 of hitless ball to record his fifth save.

La Roche will look for their second consecutive win against an OAC team on Tuesday when they host Heidelberg College. Heidelberg is currently ranked #14 in the ABCA Collegiate Baseball Poll.
