Redhawks Remain Undefeated in AMCC With 8-1, 8-0 Sweep of Hilbert

PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche Baseball's (17-4, 4-0) hot start continued with an 8-1, 8-0 sweep of Hilbert College (2-16, 1-5)on Saturday in AMCC Conference play. The victory extends the Redhawks' home win-streak to 19 games and overall win-streak to 6 games.

Redhawks' pitcher Cole Lentz got the starting nod in Game 1 and held Hilbert to just one run until La Roche broke out the bats later in the game.

 La Roche took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Colin Williamson hit a short roller to third to score Brad Goedeker. Hilbert's Paul Wujeck stole home in the fourth to tie it up but La Roche answered in the bottom of the inning when Matt Sabitini singled home Williamson.

The visiting Hawks loaded the bases with two outs and a full count in the top of the fifth inning but Lentz struck out Ryan Ilardi to end the threat.

La Roche broke out the bats in the sixth with a series of two-out hits. Goedeker legged out a triple to deep right-center field and Williamson followed with a liner down the left field line for his second RBI of the game. Sabitini notched an RBI single to left field and Watson hit a double to the left field wall to make it a five run game. Healey then scored on an error by the Hilbert shortstop and Tyler Craig singled to left-center for the Redhawks's final run.

Sabitini went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored and Watson had an RBI triple and scored. Goedeker tripled and scored twice and Shane Healey registered three hits, scored and hit in a run.

Lentz gave up just 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 7 batters and Jesse Bauer netted his sixth save of the season after two scoreless innings.

The Redhawks hot bats continued into the second half of the double-header and quality pitching from Ryan Fennell led La Roche to a Game 2 victory.

Healey led off the game with a triple to right-center field and scored on a wild pitch by Hilbert's starter Colby Parachoniak. Brian Tougher then walked, stole second, and scored, and Brian Herb doubled and scored. Williamson smacked an RBI double to go up 4-0 at the end of the first.

La Roche added two runs in the second and fifth innings to take an 8-0 lead. An error by the Hilbert right fielder scored Watson, and Dan Burns had an RBI single to right field scoring Sean Lubin. Girdano doubled to right field and scored in the fifth inning and Herb rounded the bases on an error by the third baseman.

Ryan Fennell pitched a terrific game to register his second career complete game shutout. He allowed just 5 hits and struck out 4 batters in seven innings of work and got quality play behind him including a diving catch in center by Colin Williamson.

Healey and Watson registered 2 hits each and Dan Burns, Brian Herb, and Colin Williamson notched RBIs. Herb and Anthony Girdano scored twice, and Healey, Lubin, Tougher, and Watson scored a run each.

La Roche will host former AMCC Conference rival Frostburg State on Tuesday at 3:30PM before returning to conference play on Wednesday against Penn State Altoona. Tuesday is a rematch of the 2007 AMCC Championship Game.
